- Biography -
Ami first appeared in episode 08, "Is the Genius Girl a Youma? The scary Brain-Washing Cram School.". A new student by the name of Ami; who is considered a super genius from her classmates, transfers to Usagi's school and quickly becomes friends with Usagi. Luna suspects that Ami is from the Dark Force and asks Usagi to be cautious around her. Luna suggests that they spy on Ami while she is in one of her advanced classes. While Ami is in one of her classes, her teacher turns into a Youma. She attacks Ami and shoves her face into a computer screen. As she is pressed against the screen, her planetary symbol glows on her forehead which catches Luna’s attention. Luna jumps in, gives Ami her henshin wand, and tells Ami to transform into Sailormercury. She is surprised that a cat is talking to her, but does what she is told and transforms. After she transforms, she uses her Shabon Spray attack to blind the Youma from finding her. Usagi then transforms into Sailormoon and destroys the monster. After the battle, Sailormoon introduces herself and welcomes Sailormercury to the team.
During most of the series, Ami spends a good amount of her free time studying. She really wants to be a doctor someday, so she is constantly involved with her school work. However, her friends are more important to her than anything. In SailormoonR, she actually gives up an opportunity to further her education by staying with her friends and continuing her duties as a Sailor senshi. Ami has other interests other than studying. She enjoys swimming and playing chess. In one episode in particular we see Ami’s true talent as a chess player. She beats every person and makes it into the finals. When she faced off against her last opponent, the opponent ended up being one of the villains and ends up fighting her in the end. In SailormoonS, Ami and Michiru race in a swimming pool and almost wins. After the race, Michiru looks at Ami and tells her, she must have been born from the ocean in a past life. Throughout the series, Ami is shown to have a very low self esteem; so her friends are really important to her. In the beginning, Ami was always alone. She had no friends, and many thought she was stuck up because she was so smart and never spent time with her classmates. When Usagi first met her, she immediately befriended Ami because Usagi thought Ami could help her on her exams. As the Sailor Team grew, she gained more friends and self confidence.
In the middle of the first season, a boy named Urawa falls for Ami. Ami cared for him, but never really showed her true feelings to him. Ami thought he was very smart but it turns out he had a power to see into the future and was able to obtain the answers to various tests. He was in one episode in the first season and then moved away. He came back to visit it one episode and while he was there, Ami shared her true feelings for him. In the Sailormoon SuperS special “Ami’s First Love,” Ami falls for a boy who tied her in all the school’s practice exams. The boy used a nick-name "Mercurius," so she never knew who he really was. She figured he was the monster who was attacking her, but later learned the senshi met him. When she saw he was still receiving perfect scores, she told everyone she would do her best to make perfect scores and beat Mercurius.
As Sailormercury, she uses her smarts, computer, and visor to help the team defeat the monster of the day. Sailormercury’s attacks are more defensive then offensive. Her attacks can blind and impair a monster but not really defeat the monster. In the Sailormoon SuperS special “Ami’s First Love,” she uses a very special attack that was able to defeat the monster, but it was only used once. Since her powers aren’t very strong, she is the one the senshi turn to for answers on how to quickly defeat the monster of the day. In Sailorstars, Sailoruranus tries her best to defeat Nehelenia. As Sailoruranus is attacking, Sailormercury pulls out her computer and visor and starts analyzing Nehelenia. Nehelenia sees what she is doing, so she begins attacking Sailormercury. Sailoruranus asks her why she doesn’t fight back, and Ami tells Haruka this how she fights. Nehelenia continues to attack Sailormercury but Sailoruranus steps in to take the blasts. Sailormercury finally solves the equation and tells Sailoruranus where to attack. She complies, and destroys the Nehelenia imposter. Haruka turns to Ami and asks her how she knew she was an imposter, and Ami tells her that her hair wasn’t blowing in the wind. Sailoruranus smiles and tells Sailormercury that her way of fighting was quite different from her own.

Mercury Power, Make-Up
Ami says this to transform into the powerful Sailormercury. She was the second senshi to
receive her powers from Luna. Ami was being attacked by a Youma, but when Luna saw her
planetary symbol glowing, she gave Ami her henshin pen and told her to transform into
Sailormercury.
Shabon Spray
Sailormercury uses an array of bubbles to blind and slow down various Youma. Sailormercury
calls out her attack phrase and gathers her energy in a single bubble. She then releases
the bubble and multiple bubbles form around any given area.
Mercury Star Power, Make-Up
This is Sailormercury's second transformation. After a few battles with some really strong
Cardians, Luna and Artemis felt it was time to power up the senshi. Sailormercury's
transformation is almost identical, however she poses in front of a Mercury symbol in the
end.
Shabon Spray Freezing
This is an offensive attack Sailormercury uses to freeze targets. This attack is basically
identical to her "Shabon Spray" attack. However in the end, the bubbles Sailormercury
releases freeze instead of blind. This attack was only used twice.
Shine Aqua Illusion
Sailormercury gathers her energy in a drop of water and then spins around gathering that
water around her body. She then directs the water at the enemy; either drenching them with
water or turning them into a block of ice.
Mercury Crystal Power, Make-Up
This is Sailormercury's third transformation. Her Star Pen was upgraded by Pegasus
because her previous form was not strong enough. He gave her this power after she put her
trust in him. The transformation sequence ends with her in front of a harp.
Mercury Aqua Rhapsody
Sailormercury uses this attack to slow down or freeze various enemies. She creates a ball of
water and turns it into a harp. She calls out her attack and begins to play the harp as
streams of water attack the enemy.
Mercury Aqua Mirage
This is Sailormercury's strongest attack. Streams of water surround the enemy and create a
small ball of water around it. The ball suddenly explodes; revealing only a large wave of
water. This attack was only used once.
